Cashew nuts come in shells. In order to remove the cashew nut from the shell, there is a detailed steaming process that softens the shell and removes the kernel by hand. . It is this residual skin-like material that we call cashew husk. It is slightly reddish to brown and even beige produce.

almond shell is the hard layer between the hull and the almond meat. the shell is what protects the almond from insects while on the tree. after the shell is removed from the meat at the huller, it is also used.
the edible part of the almond is actually a seed from a drupe, a fruit in which the outer shell and hull layers are typically not eaten. after extracting the almond seed, the shells and hulls are often used for livestock feed and bedding.
